Some of our offerings:

Mental Health First Aid- Just as CPR and first aid are intended to help an injured person before proper medical treatment can be provided, Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach the public key skills to help someone developing a mental health problem or crisis. The courses are designed for intervening with either adults or youth to help participants learn how to recognize mental disorders; better understand mental health treatments; be more confident in providing help to others; and to be more comfortable around people with mental disorders.  For more information or to schedule a class, contact Carrie Latimer- carrielatimer@scmhcc.org Michael McAllister- michaelmcallister@scmhcc.org

Parenting Classes- SCMH offers several different parenting curriculums based upon needs.  If after reading the descriptions provided, you are unsure of which parenting class is appropriate for your needs, please contact Susan Kiser at susankiser@scmhcc.org or 316-775-5491, ext. 215.

  • The Incredible Years®-  These classes focus on teaching parents the importance of the child-care giver emotional bond.  This evidenced based parenting series generally lasts 14 to 20 weeks, depending upon the parents self reported learning needs.

  • Love and Logic®- These parenting classes focus on helping children develop personal responsibility, self-control, and good decision making skills.  Parents learn to build on their parenting skills through the use of specific techniques in 5 to 6 sessions. Certificates Available.

  • Conscious Discipline®- These parenting classes define discipline not as something you do to children but something you develop within them.  Helps develop skills that break the cycle of "do as I say, not as I do", and to discipline children without permissiveness, aggression, or guilt.

  • Other Educational Offerings include but are not limited to: Suicide Awareness and Prevention; Divorce Issues; Self Harming behavior; Depression; Trauma, Grief, Psychological Care for the Elderly; Parenting Support Groups and Mood Regulation.
